School groups can be catered for through our specially developed programs.

 SCHOOL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

CURRICULUM – based on NSW HSIE program

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE – all children get a chance to do each activity. 

BROAD OUTLINE OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS:

Commencing in 2017, there will be 3 different schools programs on offer, tailored to suit the current school curriculum:

(Yrs 1 & 2)    Shows the children what it was like living back in the “olden days” 

                      (when Mr & Mrs Macarthur’s grown-up children and grandchildren

                      lived here) and compare it with current lifestyles. please click here for more information.

 

(Yrs 3 & 4)    Focuses on the lifestyle of the 19th century and how it differed and

                        impacted on the Aboriginal people at the time.

Allows the children to investigate the everyday life of a soldier or

official who sailed in the First Fleet and lived in the early colony.

 

(Yrs 5 & 6)    This topic provides a study of colonial Australia in the 1800s, focussing

                        on John Macarthur to learn about his Family, Friends and Foes.

Children will visit each room in Hambledon Cottage where they can meet and interview those who lived and worked with John Macarthur.

They can determine for themselves the significance of the man who is accredited with founding the wool industry in Australia, or did he ?  Hear from his wife, Elizabeth Macarthur, the girls’ governess Penelope Lucas, church minister and rival sheep breeder Rev. Samuel Marsden, architect and builder Henry Kitchen, Macarthur’s eldest son Edward and housemaid Mary.

COSTS:            $8.00 per student (Stage 1 & 2), $10.00 per student (Stage 3)

Buses are able to park outside the cottage in Hassall Street between 10am and 3pm, near the large white gate.  This gate will opened for your visit so the children do not have to cross the road.
